I love the design system that Microsoft came up with for Windows Phone 7. Originally referred to as “Metro”, and now changed to “Windows 8” Design, the system is elegant and interesting — and really best suited for a phone, tablet or other touch-based UI. Apparently, The term ‘Metro’ is reportedly being claimed as a trademark for German company Metro AG and it will no longer be used by Microsoft. What else won’t be used by Microsoft going forward are the standard UI’s that hundreds of millions (if not billions) of humans have become familiar with. Good idea? Bad Idea? There are plenty of opinions out there. Regardless, it seems to be rolling out across other Microsoft products, so if you are a Microsoft user, you may need to just get used to it.
